About Us

HISTORY OF THE CLUB

The clubrooms were built in 1955.   From 1955 to 1972 the RSL was the place to be on Friday nights. The early days when 6 o’clock closing was law for hotels and clubs, the RSL on Friday nights had a liquor licence until 11 o’clock, so when the pubs and clubs shut at six, everyone headed to the RSL to play billiards or darts and have a few more refreshments. By 1972, Hotels and Clubs had licences until 10 o’clock and the RSL lost out.  Some members of the RSL, in their wisdom, decided to build two bowling greens for members to participate in bowls and keep the RSL viable and profitable. Monday morning was the working bee time to keep the greens in top shape, with members attending and volunteering their time. Teams in the early years were made up of servicemen and women.  The teams today are made up of their children and/or grandchildren.

TODAY

The club is 46 years old this year.  In the last eight years the club has replaced the turf greens with synthetic greens, paved around both greens and put lights on one green for night bowls.  Permanent shade is around both greens, a solar system has been installed and  improvements have been made to the clubrooms that not only the members benefit from but also the wider community can enjoy.

The Bowling Club is also used for community events, parties, wakes and dinners, and has a fully licenced bar and kitchen facilities available for hire. We are also a Gold Medal GoodSports Club and part of the StarClub Development Program.
